On October 25th 2008 I took part in the Adventurecorps Fall Century ride in Death Valley. We Started at Furnace Creek and cycled to Scotty’s castle and back. I came in 72nd out of 156 riders. So my time and place I was happy with. I finished in 8 hours and 41 minutes. Another plus of the ride was the NBA legend Bill Walton was also part of the ride. I was just awestruck with Death Valley and the views. I hope to go back next year for the Fall century or double century ride.

Training update
I am excited to once again be on Team Ireland. After a year lay off due to pain which turned out to be that I needed hip resurfacing. I had Bone on Bone in my right Hip. They think from 30 years of running but they are not sure. I had the Hip resurfacing on March 19th 2008 and 2 weeks later I was riding my bike. I have not been super motivated to train full time on my bike so my training so far has been hit and miss. On Sunday 7-13-2008 I got a 20 miler in and then yesterday I get a 24 mile bike ride in. My surgeon told me not to run again till a year after my surgery but I have read several web pages on other people who have returned to running sooner then that after hip resurfacing so I am giving it some serious thought. I have been unable to get in the cycling race frame of mind . I did do the Whiteface Mountain uphill bike race last month but that is nothing like a regular bike race which I am leary of entering. I think once I enter one I will be fine but I need to get to that first race.
On October 25th 2008 I am entered into the adventurecorps 200 mile bike ride in Deathvalley. But my ultimate hope has always been to run the Badwater 135 mile race in July at Deathvalley. I have not yet gave up on this dream.
As I stated earlier My friend Bob who I originally joined Team Ireland for in 2007 was in the local Hospital a few weeks ago in I.C.U. He is home now and is doing better. I wish there was something more I could do for him.
Till next time Take care. Larry
